About

Cecilia's headshot

I lead strategy and services that connect researchers, communities, and institutions through knowledge infrastructures. My work centers on openness, equity, and discovery, particularly in scholarly communication, research data, digital scholarship, and responsible AI.

As Director of Digital Scholarship at the University of Chicago Library, I oversee the Center for Digital Scholarship and contribute to senior library leadership. I support campus-wide research initiatives, digital services, and policy development that expand access to knowledge and strengthen the Library’s role as a steward of research and digital innovation.

My research interests focus on data initiatives that align research infrastructure with institutional priorities, emphasizing sustainable, ethical, and researcher-centered approaches to open knowledge.

With a PhD in Anthropology and an MS in GIS & Spatial Analysis, I bring a perspective grounded in curiosity, strategic thinking, and a commitment to knowledge as a public good.

My recent projects include:

  • Mapping Chicagoland: An NEH-funded collaborative initiative with the Newberry Library and Chicago History Museum to digitize and enrich historical maps of Chicago. This project advances place-based pedagogy and foregrounds community memory while building distinctive digital collections that align with local and global research interests.

  • Resurrecting the Guerrilla Television Network: A CLIR-funded project to preserve, digitize, and share foundational but underrepresented video archives from 1968-1980. This project supports cultural heritage preservation and public access to experimental media collections.

  • GIS Librarians for Open Workflows (GLOW): An IMLS-funded initiative to develop open, extensible workflows for geospatial data stewardship and access. GLOW prioritizes librarian expertise and institutional collaboration to create more effective and personalized service models, advancing the accessibility and stewardship of geospatial information.
